WEEZER'S RIVERS CUOMO INJURED IN BUS ACCIDENT
Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo is on the mend. The singer was hospitalized Sunday morning after his tour bus slid off of an icy New York road around 7:30 a.m., according to CNN.com. Two inches of snow fell in the upstate New York area Saturday night, leaving roads wet. Cuomo's bus slid into the median, hitting reflective posts prior to crossing back over the highway. At that point, the bus went over a guard rail before rolling into a ditch. Cuomo complained of pain in his ribs and was transferred, along with one other passenger, to St. Mary's hospital in Amsterdam, New York. His wife, daughter, and another passenger also on the bus escaped injury. Police say that at the time of the accident, the bus was on its way from Toronto, Ontario to Boston, Massachusetts for a show tonight at Boston University's Agganis Arena.
KINGS OF LEON QUESTION WISDOM OF SUCCESS
Kings Of Leon singer Caleb Followill says there are times when he longs for the simpler days before they hit it big. The vocalist tells Spin.com, quote, "We definitely got bigger than we wanted to be. You feel like you've done something wrong." He says he almost feels he has to do damage control fearing that the success of "Only By The Night" will put the band at a level where listeners grow to hate them. Followill says he talked with Eddie Vedder about the disc after the Pearl Jam singer initially heard it. He recalls Vedder, quote, "called it immediately. He was one of the first people to hear 'Only By The Night,' and he said, 'You're about to ride a big wave.' I don't even think he liked the record. But he knew immediately that we were about to go through something big."
Kings Of Leon is a top rock nominee heading into the 52nd annual GRAMMY Awards. The group is up for four awards, including Record and Song of the Year for "Use Somebody."
MGMT HAPPY ABOUT GRAMMY NOMINATION, NOT EXPECTING TO WIN
MGMT is looking ahead to GRAMMY night, but the duo's Andrew Van Wyngarden isn't holding out much hope for a win. MGMT is a nominee for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals with the song "Kids," and Van Wyngarden tells EW.com he believes the award is probably out of their reach unless there's a big underdog push. The singer says, quote, "My instinct would tell me that Black Eyed Peas will probably sweep everything. Even at the nomination ceremony, every camera shot was Black Eyed Peas. Every go-to-commercial was Black Eyed Peas. They, like, own the GRAMMYS." But he notes there's always the chance that voters will see their toddler-terrorizing "Kids" video and realize that it's something the Black Eyed Peas don't have going for them.
● The Black Eyed Peas are in the running for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals with "I Gotta Feeling." Other nominees in the category include Bon Jovi's "We Weren't Born To Follow," The Fray with "Never Say Never," and Daryl Hall & John Oates' "Sara Smile." The 52nd annual GRAMMY Awards will be presented in a ceremony airing on CBS on January 31st.
THE CRYSTAL METHOD THRILLED TO EARN SECOND CAREER GRAMMY NOMINATION
The Crystal Method is looking forward to GRAMMY night, hoping that they'll take home the Best Electronic/Dance Album win for their latest effort, "Divided By Night." The duo's Ken Jordan says, quote, "We are just ecstatic! Two albums in a row nominated, wow! I just wish our albums didn't come five years apart. Congrats to all the nominees and we can't wait to dress up on January 31st." The Crystal Method's Scott Kirkland adds, quote, "We are so excited! It's truly an honor to be nominated again." The duo's 2004 album "Legion of Boom" was in the running for a GRAMMY in 2005, becoming one of the inaugural nominees in the new Best Electronic/Dance Album category, but lost to Basement Jaxx's "Kish Kash."
"Divided By Night" is facing Lady Gaga's "The Fame," Pet Shop Boys' "Yes," David Guetta's "One Love," and LMFAO's "Party Rock" at next year's ceremony. The 52nd annual GRAMMY Awards will be presented in a ceremony airing on CBS on January 31st.
The Crystal Method wrap up 2009 with a few dates and have some January shows scattered in as well. Their next show will be in Scottsdale, Arizona on Friday.

TOOL, PUCIFER FRONTMAN'S WINE BUSINESS SUBJECT OF NEW FILM
Tool/Puscifer vocalist Maynard James Keenan is building a successful wine business that should only get another boost next month when the new documentary "Blood Into Wine" surfaces. Ryan Page and Christopher Pomerenke directed the film, which follows the rocker's winemaking and musical pursuits. Page tells Noisecreep.com, quote, "The documentary fits into Maynard's creative world. It shows his musical side, and it's also about Puscifer, their origins, why he's making the music. It's all the wild stuff, like his reasons for branching out." The film debuts at the Sundance Film Festival in January. In addition, Keenan might also take the stage for a film premiere/performance in late February.
ANIMAL COLLECTIVE FILM HEADED TO SUNDANCE
Animal Collective will move from the stage to the screen early next year. That's because a new film about the group called "ODDSAC" will be featured at the Sundance Film Festival in January. The band's Avery Tare tells NME.com, quote, "We tried to make the music go along with the visuals as much as possible. We didn't want it to sound just like a soundtrack, but then we didn't want it to be like a music video either." The Danny Perez-directed film combines the group's music with their own visuals. Tare adds, quote, "It's kind of like a psychedelic film. It's not like a narrative or anything. There are more cohesive moments in it, but then there are some that are a little more abstract."
CREED TO CONTINUE BEYOND CURRENT REUNION
Creed's reunion trek appears to be a success on both a professional and personal level. Guitarist Mark Tremonti tells Billboard.com that the group, who reunited this year after a five-year break, may not limit the reunion to a one-off run. He says there's no reason it couldn't continue, quote, "As long as things still flow smoothly." Tremonti explains, quote, "Now that the record's out and the first tour's been done and everything, there haven't been any fights or disagreements...It feels good. We've been gone a long time, and we've got a lot to prove still." Creed's CD "Full Circle" debuted at number two on the chart, and they set a world record on tour with their Houston performance. That show is the basis of their new concert DVD, "Creed Live," due out tomorrow.
Whatever is next for Creed will have to wait until after the next Alter Bridge album. That group took a break for Creed to reunite, and now Tremonti is back working with singer Myles Kennedy in Florida on songs for the next Alter Bridge disc, which is expected next year.
FLEET FOXES PREPPING SECOND CD
Fleet Foxes are working on new music after making many 2008 year-end favorites lists. Singer Robin Peckford tells Pitchfork.com that the group is putting in time on their next effort every day, and will continue to do so until their next record is done. The vocalist admits that despite the positive reviews, he's "nonplussed" about the disc and does not intend to repeat the direction from Fleet Foxes' 2008 self-titled debut. He adds that the new material is "less poppy," and that there's a mix of "super-upbeat" songs along with tracks that are "little bit less upbeat." Peckford adds that while there is no title or firm release date for Fleet Foxes' next album, he expects the new CD to be ready for to hit stores toward the end of next year.
DAVE GROHL NO LONGER FIGHTING FOO LONGEVITY
The Foo Fighters are one of the top acts in rock, but there were many doubters along the way -- including founding member Dave Grohl. The musician tells "Time" magazine, quote, "I never thought we would last more than two albums. The first album was a fluke. It wasn't meant to be a career, it wasn't meant to be a band. I'd have called it something else if it was meant to be a band." Grohl says the only reason he named the band Foo Fighters was to have some anonymity when putting together his initial demos. He explains, quote, "I didn't want people to know it was me if they heard it. I wanted them to think it was a band. So I thought, 'OK, maybe if I pluralize it, it will sound like The Ramones, a gang -- a group of people.'" The Foo Fighters' most recent release is "Greatest Hits" album, which coincides with their 15th anniversary as a band.
THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS NATURALLY EPIC
Thirty Seconds To Mars has carried an epic quality throughout three records now, with "This Is War" being the latest in their large-sounding releases. Singer Jared Leto notes that as a musician he was never interested in simple songs, and 30 Seconds To Mars is a true reflection of the music he wants to make. Thirty Seconds To Mars' "This Is War" arrives in stores Tuesday. It follows the band's 2002 self-titled debut and 2005's "A Beautiful Lie." The new album includes the track "Hurricane," featuring guest appearances from The Killers frontman Brandon Flowers and rapper Kanye West, as well as the group's current single "Kings and Queens."
DAVE MATTHEWS WELCOMED COUNTRY COLLABORATION WITH KENNY CHESNEY
Dave Matthews says he appreciated the opportunity to work with Kenny Chesney on the song "I'm Alive." The Dave Matthews Band frontman notes the collaboration with the country star gave him the chance to do something different. He explains, quote, “I like Kenny's music and I admire his career. And, you know, I like the idea of doing something that is out of the box for me.” Chesney and Matthews actually teamed up on the song last year, for Chesney's 2008 album "Lucky Old Sun," but at that time "I'm Alive" wasn't released as a single. Chesney then included the track on his 2009 "Greatest Hits 2," and issued it as a single from that collection.
U2, DMB PART OF STARBUCKS' "LOVE PROJECT"
U2 and Dave Matthews Band are featured on the new EP "The Love Project." Starbucks is behind the four-track disc, which the company is releasing in conjunction with Monday's "Love Project." The event, taking place at 8:30 a.m. Eastern, will unite musicians worldwide in a performance of The Beatles song "All You Need Is Love." The coffee company will stream the global concert online in a live feed. Following the performance, anyone in the world with a video camera is invited to submit their own version of the love anthem for a global viewing audience. Starbucks is hosting the event as a thank you to customers who helped the company contribute to the Global Fund through RED. In one year, Starbucks' partnership with RED has generated enough money to buy more than seven million days of medicine to help people living with HIV in Africa. THE WAILERS' "CATCH A FIRE" PICKED FOR GRAMMY HALL OF FAME
The Wailers' album "Catch a Fire" is among the recordings being added to the GRAMMY Hall of Fame. The legendary group's 1973 major label debut helped spread reggae music beyond Jamaica, brought the band international attention, and made Bob Marley and Peter Tosh superstars. The politically charged album, which includes the single "Stir It Up," is noted for both its militance and its optimism. It was the third of four albums for the group. Within a year of "Catch a Fire's" release, the band evolved into Bob Marley and the Wailers with the departure of principle members Tosh and Bunny Wailer. The Wailers' "Catch a Fire" is one of 25 rock, pop, R&B, jazz and other recordings entering the Recording Academy's archives in 2010.
Eligible recordings, which are selected by The Recording Academy Trustees, must be at least 25 years old and considered, quote, "of lasting qualitative or historical significance." Recording Academy President and CEO Neil Portnow says the newly inducted songs and albums, quote, "highlight a diverse array of masterpiece recordings that have had a profound impact on our musical history." He adds that the selections, quote, "are timeless staples that span six decades and represent a wide range of genres," and "they all greatly deserve to be memorialized." With the latest collection of inductees, the Grammy Hall of Fame has grown to 851 titles.
NEW FOUND GLORY MAKING APPEAL FOR FAMILY
New Found Glory frontman Jordan Pundik is appealing to fans to help his mom. The singer's mother Maureen was rushed to Broward General Medical Center last Friday suffering from a sudden, unidentified infection that has damaged her heart. She's now in critical condition at another facility, where she's awaiting a heart transplant. However, Pundik's mother is without insurance, so Jordan is asking fans to help out in anyway they can. On their website HelpMendAHeart.com, Jordan and his siblings note Maureen, quote, "is a firm believer in prayer and asked us to tell everyone we know to pray for her." They add that their mom, quote, "needs a tidal wave of SUPPORT, in any way, shape or form." Fans are encouraged to send messages to Maureen and her family to HelpMendAHeart@gmail.com. HelpMendAHeart.com is also set up to accept monetary donations.
U2'S BONO RISKS OVEREXPOSURE WITH NEW (RED) CAMPAIGN
U2's Bono is a tireless campaigner for Africa, but even he realizes his overexposure can water down the message. The singer tells "The Daily Mail," quote, I'm surprised that people are interested in talking to me anymore. They must just think, 'God, he's back again.'" He also admits his celebrity status likely also turns some people off from the cause -- but doesn't think it should. Bono notes, quote, "You can still contribute even if you are not as fortunate as I am. I've been blessed and I've been over-rewarded for what I do and I'm trying to give my time and my resources, but you know, I'm a rich rock star, so shoot me. I'm having a great life and even though I can be a pain in the ass going on about all this stuff, the band feel strongly about it too."
Bono adds, quote, "With this campaign, I'm not asking people to put their hands in their pockets. I'm asking them to put the hands in the pockets of companies like Apple and I'm not sure people really get that." The rocker is currently promoting the (RED) campaign-backed sale of Nike and Apple items that are funding projects in Africa.
THREE DOORS DOWN DELIVER "CHRISTMAS" PRESENT
The members of Three Doors Down are feeling generous as the holiday season begins, and they've got a new acoustic digital EP to promote. The eight-song "Where My Christmas Lives" features their newly-penned holiday track, "Where My Christmas Lives." Singer Brad Arnold says the song is about how family really helps define Christmas, explaining, quote, "The times we share with family at Christmas make memories that last forever." Both a studio version and an acoustic version of the song are on the EP, along with acoustic versions of such 3 Doors Down favorites as "It's Not My Time," "The Only One You've Got," "Your Arms Feel Like Home," "Let Me Be Myself," "Pages," and "Runaway." The Three Doors Down EP "Where My Christmas Lives" arrives via iTunes December 8th.
ROB ZOMBIE EAGER, RELUCTANT TO PLAY NEW SONGS LIVE
Rob Zombie is anxious to play his new music on tour, but not so anxious that he's ready to share everything from "Hellbilly Deluxe 2." The vocalist says his group has been working up "Mars Needs Women" at sound checks, but will wait to add it to their set until it's closer to the album's release date. Zombie attributes the decision to the Internet, telling MTV News, quote, "We would already play it if everybody didn't bootleg every little thing you do. The whole album would be online if we played any more." So far, Zombie's shows include "What?" and "Sick Bubble-Gum" -- a song he notes has been getting a great response. The singer says even though it's a new track audiences are treating it like an old favorite. "Hellbilly Deluxe 2" is due in stores February 2nd.
THREE DAYS GRACE ALWAYS WORKING
Three Days Grace is currently promoting their "Life Starts Now" album, and in the future records may come even quicker for the group. Drummer Neil Sanderson says the band does a lot of advanced preparation before the set out to record their material, which helps the process. He notes the group has a rig they take on the road to help test out new ideas. Acknowledging that all the guys in Three Days Grace are “workaholics,” Sanderson adds that over the years they've refined their efforts to make it as easy as possible to keep the creative flow going.
THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS MAKES CONNECTION WITH LEGENDARY ACTRESS
Thirty Seconds To Mars is now past their legal dispute with their label, but the tumultuous times for the band led to an unexpected new friendship. Singer Jared Leto tells "The Los Angeles Times" that he's been corresponding with veteran screen legend Olivia de Havilland. He explains that while his group was fighting to get free of their label deal he reached out to the actress, who set the legal precedent for California regarding the duration of personal service contracts. The singer says, quote, "We used the same statute to resolve our lawsuit." Thirty Seconds To Mars' struggle provided early inspiration for the group's upcoming CD "This Is War," which arrives in stores December 8th.
Leto says his friendship with de Havilland sprang from a request for an interview -- which she declined. He wanted her to contribute to a documentary he was making on "This Is War." But while the Hollywood legend wouldn't go on camera with Leto she still agreed to meet with him, and he notes they've remained in contact ever since.
SILVERSUN PICKUPS CONSIDER UNPLUGGING MORE OFTEN
The Silversun Pickups are enjoying quite a big year. Singer Brian Aubert notes one of the highlights for the group was getting a chance to rework their music for an MTV "Unplugged" special. He says he appreciates how MTV "Unplugged" gave the band a chance to do something different, bexplaining, quote, "It's fun to do those things because you can represent certain aspects of your album that you don't quite do live at big shows." Aubert adds that the show inspired him musically. He admits he's mulling over an acoustic remake of the song “Growing Old is Getting Old.”
THE CRASH KINGS ARE A CLAVINET BAND
The Crash Kings have that great guitar sound, without the guitar. That comes courtesy of singer Tony Beliveau. He has become a master of an instrument called the clavinet, which is essentially a keyboard with guitar strings. Beliveau explains that he got his clavinet from a man who just had one sitting in storage, and when his band mates found out they immediately set out to incorporate it into their music. To showcase the unique instrument the Crash Kings recorded a medley of some of the greatest rock guitar solos for a YouTube video. The clip, which features segments of songs by Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Queen, AC/DC, and Black Sabbath can be seen at www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEQ2ia1bP0g. Beliveau also plays clavinet on the band's self-titled album, out now.

THE KILLERS SUPPORTING (RED) WITH NEW HOLIDAY SONG
The Killers are continuing their association with the (RED) organization with their new Christmas single, which is raising money for the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Singer Brandon Flowers says the band is "thrilled" to once again support (RED) with a holiday release, noting that through its programs the organization "has made great strides in providing care to those affected by AIDS throughout Africa." Flowers adds, quote, "It's our honor to continue to contribute to that cause." This year's offering is titled "Happy Birthday Guadalupe." The song has a Latin feel thanks to Mariachi El Bronx and Wild Light, who are guest contributors to the track. The collaboration stems from The Killers' last tour, which featured Mariachi El Bronx and Wild Light as openers. A video for the song can be seen at www.youtube.com/watch?v=_T_H0DJ9-t0.
LIVE FRONTMAN FOCUSED ON SOLO WORK
Live vocalist Ed Kowalczyk is extending his solo tour amid word that he's no longer in the group. Guitarist Chad Taylor revealed earlier this week that Live's hiatus has become a split with the singer. Kowalczyk has not commented on the matter yet. He has spent much of this year focused on launching his solo career. Kowalczyk has been touring while working on his debut solo album. In his latest website post, he notes he'll be taking part in 3 Doors Down's charity event this weekend. The 6th annual The Better Life Foundation Presents 3 Doors Down & Friends benefit concert will take place in Biloxi, Mississippi on Saturday. LIAM GALLAGHER MIGHT KEEP OASIS NAME
Liam Gallagher is having second thoughts about scrapping the Oasis name. The singer had previously stated in interviews that even though his new band is Oasis -- minus his brother, guitarist Noel Gallagher -- the band is not the same Oasis. Now he tells "The Evening Standard" that while the group isn't using the name Oasis, they don't have another moniker yet. He adds, quote, "If we don't come up with something else by the time we're ready to release the album it'll be Oasis. I'm not going to call myself something ridiculous just for the sake of it." Liam also notes that this new group won't be performing any songs written by Noel.
BILLY CORGAN TAKING ON BOOK PROJECTS
Billy Corgan is writing again, but this time its prose rather than lyrics. The Smashing Pumpkins singer says via his spiritual website "Everything From Here To There" that he has signed a book deal. However, he notes the details regarding his literary project are still being worked out. The vocalist adds that he also has another writing project in the works. Corgan says he's collaborating with a friend on a contribution to a novelette, and intends to use his spiritual website to discover, quote, "fresh, creative ways to stay present" and help him find the time to write.
CAGE THE ELEPHANT ROLL THE BONES WHILE THE BUS ROLLS ALONG
Cage The Elephant has found one way to kill time on the tour bus. Guitarist Brad Shultz says one of their passions is the dice game Cee-lo. He and lead guitarist Lincoln Parrish admit they bet on the games, but note that given the limited player pool it's not as profitable as it could be. The rockers laugh as they explain the size of the pot is always the same, with the same 20-dollars circulating amongst them. The only thing that changes is the band member in possession of the money. Cage The Elephant's traveling Cee-lo game is currently rolling through Texas. The band will be performing in Houston on Thursday and in Dallas on Friday.
SICK PUPPIES' SPORTY CONCERTS
For Sick Puppies, performing is an athletic endeavor. Bassist Emma Anzai says she and her bandmates prep for a concert like a team about to take the field, noting they do stretches and calisthenics as they get ready to hit the stage for a show. And the games aren't over yet for Sick Puppies. The Australian band is among the openers on Breaking Benjamin's winter tour. The trek, which also features Rev Theory and Adelitas Way, will continue for another three weeks. The bands are currently in Texas, and have shows set for Lubbock on Wednesday and Grand Prairie on Thursday.
FLAMING LIPS TO RING IN 2010 ON "DARK SIDE OF THE MOON"
The Flaming Lips are taking their love of Pink Floyd's "Dark Side Of The Moon" to the stage for New Year's Eve. The group recently revealed plans to record the album in its entirety with their friends in Stardeath And White Dwarfs. While firm release plans have not been announced, the Lips say they'll be ringing in 2010 with a performance of the classic rock material for their hometown audience. The special Pink Floyd performance is set for Oklahoma City's Cox Center.
THE TEMPER TRAP'S "SWEET" REMINDER
Australian newcomers The Temper Trap are introducing themselves to American audiences with the single "Sweet Disposition." Singer Dougie Mandagi says the song, which features the group's signature atmospheric sound, serves as a reminder to lighten up and live in the moment. He explains that adults tend to be jaded and overly intellectual, and, quote, “we forget to just kind of live for the moment sometimes.” The vocalist notes the song is about “the innocence of youth” and, quote, “going back to that innocence, to that way of thinking.” "Sweet Disposition" is the lead-off single from The Temper Trap's debut album, "Conditions." The CD, which was released in the UK and the band's Australian homeland over the summer, just arrived in U.S. stores this fall.
RADIOHEAD, ELLIOTT SMITH MAKE UK "COMING OF AGE" SONG LIST
Radiohead and the late Elliott Smith are getting credit for helping some music lovers bridge that difficult time between adolescence and adulthood. Readers of the UK's "The Guardian" recently voted for their favorite "coming of age" songs, and Radiohead's "Karma Police" and Smith's "King's Crossing" are both on the list. The selected tracks are cited for how they depict feelings of desperation, longing, and rebellion. Other songs that resonate with British fans include Eric Clapton's "Layla," Tom Waits' "9th And Hennepin" and The Animals' "We Gotta Get Out Of This Place." Grandmaster Flash's "The Message," Phil Collins' "The Roof is Leaking," and Nina Simone's "The Ballad of Hollis Brown" are also getting recognition, along with Dionne Warwick's "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself" and Buffy Saint Marie's "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee."

Here is the update I have been promising. Thank you for all the nice letters. My back operation last year is now officially a bust. I am in more pain now that ever before. I made sure the operation was the last thing on the list to do. I have also been having a lot of trouble with my knee. My ortho surgeon says I need a new knee but I am pretty hesitant to do so. None of my recent operations have worked out. So the ortho doc has decided to go in and remove the piece of broken bone and shave the arthritis in the area and see how that helps. I am much more willing to do this than a knee replacement. As for the level of pain my only relief is from some very strong meds that whack my brains but do take me from a worst pain ever of a 10 to a 7 or 8. Its not great but believe me there is a big diff between the two. It makes concentration or the ability to function as a human difficult. Sadly, the hope of getting better seems hopeless. My pain management guy wants to put these probes in my spine to see if they can use electrical current to block the pain signal. I am weary but maybe it will help. Its in my future. They perform a test and then if it works they plant them in me presently. My docs and all the staff have been very nice and helpful, I am lucky in that regard.
